Clifford J. Carrier, 73, of 60 Central Street in Claremont, died Tuesday
afternoon, December 18, 2007 at his home.
He was born in Claremont, NH, on May 6, 1934 the son of Edward J. and Mary
G. (McElreavy) Currier. He resided in Claremont most of his life and lived
in Unity for a short time.
Clifford worked as a mason for Carlton Fountain in Newport for many years
and retired in 1995, from Dorr Woolen Mill in Newport where he worked for
several years and previously worked at Dartmouth Woolen Mill.
Clifford enjoyed working with his hands and with rocks. He loved football
and baseball.
He was the widower of Susie Bell (Smith) Carrier whom he married on May 8,
1954 and she died when she was hit by an automobile in Kissimmee, FL while
they were on vacation on February 20, 1995.
The surviving family includes four daughters, Theresa Holt of Dahlonega, GA,
Debora Dowlin and her husband Ralph, Darlene Carrier and Carol Scott all of
Claremont; three sons, Christopher Carrier and his wife, Eva of Unity,
David Carrier and his wife, Betty of Gainesville, GA and James Armstrong of
Ohio; 21 grandchildren of which one grandson, David Carrier, Jr. is in Irag;
19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy L. Nies and her husband Fred
and Josephine C. Davis and her husband David all of Charlestown and
Priscilla I. Matthews of Claremont; two brothers, James E. Carrier of
Sunapee and Francis E. "Jack" Carrier of Charlestown; a special friend,
Lillian Kendell of Keene; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by an infant son, Joseph E. Carrier on Feb. 20, 1959;
three great-grandchildren, Richard St. Lawrence in 1990, Vennessa Holt and
Jasmine Sanborn both in 1994; one brother, Lawrence J. "Joe" Carrier on
March 1, 1996 and a brother-in-law, George E. Matthews on Jan. 19, 1981.
Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Friday
evening from 6 to 8 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning, Dec. 22nd
at Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Church with Rev. Fr. Shawn M. Therrien,
Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in St Mary's Cemetery.
The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his
memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire, 66 Hanover St., Ste. 101,
Manchester, NH 03101-2230.
