Master Sergeant Daniel Dimas Shand, 38, died on June 11, 2007 in Killeen,
TX.   Funeral services with full military honors took place there on

June 14th. He was buried at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

He was born on September 5, 1968 in New Haven , CT and moved to Vermont with
his parents in 1973. He attended Weathersfield schools and graduated from
Steven High School with the Class of 1986. He was a member of the Ascutney
Union Church, the Ascutney Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of
the Maryland Masonic Lodge No. 107.

He started his military career with the Vermont National Guard in 1985 and
transferred to the regular Army in 1988. He served two tours in Korea and
two in Iraq. Master Sergeant Shand's last duty station was Fort Hood in
Killeen, Texas. His military awards include: Army Commendation Medal, Army
Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal,
Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer
Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Expert
Field Medical Badge. He most recently was in charge of training combat field
medics for battlefield service abroad.

Survivors include his wife, Christy Shand of Killeen; two sons and one
daughter, Daniel D. Shand, Jr., Devin Shand and Jada Shand of Louisiana;
Jacqueline Thomason (Shand), the children's mother, also of Louisiana; his
parents, Ernest W. Shand and Loraine "Cookie" L. Shand of Weathersfield, VT;
three sisters, Wafica Brooks of Weathersfield, VT, Mavis "Missy" Lizotte of
Springfield, VT, and Heather Shand of Falmouth, ME.

There will be a service to celebrate his life and a time for sharing on
Saturday, June 23, at 4:00PM at the Ascutney Union Church on Route 5 in
Ascutney.
