Donald Fred Childs, 83, of Dane Avenue in Claremont, died Tuesday morning,
November 21, 2006 at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, NH.

He was born in Perkinsville, VT on May 21, 1923 the son of Horace and Mary
(Cady) Childs and had resided in Claremont for fifty-six years.

He was a graduate of Springfield High School in Springfield, VT and was a
veteran of World War II having served in the US Army 1st infantry and
participated in the invasion of Normandy and received the Bronze Star,
Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Mr. Childs retired in 1982 from Jones & Lampson Machine Company in
Springfield, VT where he worked as a machinist and inspector for forty
years.  He was a member of the D.A.V. and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and
the Yankees.

The surviving family includes his wife, Camille E. (Fontaine) Childs of
Claremont whom he married on May 26, 1950; two sons, Mitchell E. Childs and
his wife, Patricia of Diamond Bar, CA and Donald F. Childs, Jr. and his
wife, Denise of Royse City, TX; three daughters, Cheryl Gendell and her
husband, Steve of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Vickie Laber and her husband,
William of Somersworth, NH  and Marcia Takes of Claremont; eight
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Harriett Childs of
Hillsborough, NC, Ruth Ross of Manchester Center, VT and Janice Palotta of
Rutland, VT also several nieces and nephews.

As to Mr. Childs's wishes there will be no visiting or funeral services.

A graveside committal service will be held in Plain Cemetery in
Weathersfield, VT in the spring.

The family suggest that donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled
