Doris Mary Surrell, 90, of Ox Brook Road in North Charlestown, died Saturday evening, June 10, 2006 at her home. She was born in Northumberland, NH on August 2, 1915, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Ouellet) Castonguay and had been a resident of North Charlestown since 1950. She was a graduate of Stevens High School in the class of 1933. Doris was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of Court Virgil H. Barber No. 892, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Ladies of St. Anne Society, a Past President and lifetime member of the Claremont Emblem Club, Past President of the State of NH Emblem Clubs, AARP and former member of the Sugar River Grange of North Charlestown. "Nanny" as she was known to many, had a strong caring love for children and loved to be with them. She enjoyed traveling and her hobbies were reading, collecting recipes, gardening, and tatting and was proud that she had tatted many doilies for her daughters. She was the widow of Erwin "Chick" W. Surrell whom she married on September 2, 1940 and he died January 20, 1999. The surviving family includes three daughters, Enola E. Surrell of North Charlestown, Elaina S. Schultz and her husband Chuck of Tolland, CT and Barbara K. Cutts and her husband Bruce of Claremont; grandson Jeffrey T.W. Surrell, Sr. of North Charlestown whom she raised from infancy; grandchildren Brian, Barbara Ann and Bradley Cutts all of Claremont; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; one step great-great granddaughter; a brother, Harold Castonguay and is wife Rosemarie of West Hartford, CT; a sister, Violet Rokicki of Naples, FL, sisters-in-Law, Olive Mackay of Windsor, VT, Erma Goodman of Venice, FL, Marjorie Surrell of Newport, NH and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Kathleen M. Kincman; stepdaughter, Belva Jean Surrell and a sister, Orella Thibodeau. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Members of the Catholic Daughters are asked to meet at the Funeral Home Monday evening at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning, June 13th at Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery.
