Dorothy Venable, 86, formerly of Claremont, NH, died August 21, 2005 at the St Joseph of The Pines Health Center in Southern Pines, NC. She was born in Sherbrooke, PQ Canada on October 19, 1918 the daughter of Herbert E. and Lillie A. (Hooper) Beattie Osgood. She was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of 1937, graduate of Northampton Commercial College, Los Angeles College of Design and Laguna Beach School of Fine Arts. She traveled widely, lived for a short time in England, lived in California for twenty-five years. Mrs. Venable was a member of the motion picture industry and an Interior Designer at the Walt Disney Studios. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, National Society of Arts and Letters, International Iridologists, Society of Military Widows, Gold Star Wives of America, Costa Mesa (CA) Arts Association, So. California Women's Press Club and Association of Research & Enlightenment. She is the widow of Captain Leland D. Venable, USN. The surviving family includes a daughter, Brenda Laine; a step-daughter, Vicki Sander; a step-son, Ted Jeffrey Venable; a grandson and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a brother Earl Osgood; five half sisters, Ivy Economo, Evelyn White, Hazel Jones, Beatrice Ugolnic and Vercil Verboncouer; two half brothers, William Beattie and Ernest Beattie. Graveside committal services will be held Friday morning, September 9th at Nine O'clock in Mt View Cemetery, with Rev. Margaret M. Long, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. The Stringer Funeral Home and Crematorium, 146 Broad Street in Claremont is in charge of arrangements. The family suggest that donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950. |
