Erland W. Purington, Jr., 54, of Railroad Street in Charlestown, died at his
home on Sunday, November 4, 2007.
He was born in Farmington, ME on January 2, 1953 the son of Erland W. and
Donna (Gammon) Purington. He had resided in Unity for seven years and in
Charlestown for the past four years.
Erland was employed as a cylinder inspector at Merriam-Graves Corp. in
Charlestown for the past ten years and had previously worked at Design
Standards for ten years and also at Grobert File all in Charlestown. He
also worked in Keene for a short time.
He was a member of the Bellows Falls American Legion.
Erland enjoyed hunting, fishing, chess, pool, football, baseball, and
softball where he played on the Merriam-Graves Company team. He also loved
spending time with his family.
The surviving family includes one daughter, Heather Serbian and her husband,
Jonathan of Claremont; two sons, Charles Armstrong and his wife, Tiffany of
Malden, MA and Eric Purington of Unity; his mother, Donna Gammon of Taunton,
MA; his adopted parents, John and Betty Cananzey of Charlestown; six step
sisters; one foster brother; two foster sisters and nieces, nephews and
cousins. He was predeceased by his father and one half brother.
A memorial service will be held Thursday evening, November 8th at 7 pm at
the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home one hour prior to service.
