Ferd Dalke, 90, of the Bellows Falls Road in South Charlestown, died at his
home on Friday afternoon, February 16, 2007.

He was born in Chinook, MT on July 9, 1916 the son of William and Justina
(Bergen) Dalke and had resided in Charlestown since 1988.

He had previously lived in Kittery, ME for 4 years and in Napa, CA for 10
years.

He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army Air Corps in Hawaii.

Mr. Dalke retired in 1980 as Supervisor of Engineering from Westinghouse
Corporation for which he worked in various locales from Connecticut to
California to Washington to Kittery, Maine for 25 years.

He had a lifelong love of airplanes, particularly the B45.  During WWII he
was a flight engineer, stationed in Hawaii, on the B45.  He was proud  of
his perfect record, never losing a plane to mechanical problems on his
watch.  Following the war, Ferd worked for Northrup for many years before
joining Westinghouse.  He finished his career working on nuclear submarines.

Ferd was lovingly cared for by David and Cammie Dalke and enjoyed sharing
life with them and their children Amanda and Kyle for the last years.

He was the widower of Geraldine (Bloom) Dalke whom he married on Aug. 9,
1939 and she died in Sept. 9, 1978.

The surviving family includes two sons, David Dalke of Charlestown and
George Dalke of Palo Alto, CA; four daughters, Betty Wathne of Sharpsburg,
MD, Carole Stevens, Linda Moore and Sharon Cooper all of Claremont; 14
grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Voss of Redlands,
CA; two brothers, William Dalke of Chico, CA and Marvin Dalke of Riverside,
CA; also nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by a brother Melvin Dalke; two sisters, Lillian and Erma
Lee; a granddaughter, Kirsten Wathne and a great-grandson, Jonathan Callum.

Funeral services were held February 19th at Two O'clock in the Charlestown
Congregational Church with Rev. Malcolm Grobe, Interim Pastor officiating. 

Interment with full military honors provided by the Charlestown Memorial
Post #8497 Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be held Saturday, May 12th at One
O'clock in Hope Hill Cemetery in North Charlestown with Rev. Malcolm Grobe,
officiating.

The family suggests that donations may be made in his memory to the American
