Frank Walter Connor, 72, died March 3, 2005 at the home of his daughter in Maine after a battle with cancer. Born July 15, 1932 in Nashua, New Hampshire, Frank was the son of Harold and Marion Connor. He worked on the family farm in his youth, and after graduating from Henniker, NH, high school, he attended Oberlin College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army, and during this time he married Dorothy Crawford of Mansfield, Ohio. On January 22, 2005, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He received his Masters Degree in Education from Keene State College, and in 1957 Frank began teaching at Stevens High School where he taught until his retirement in 1993. In addition to his teaching duties, he coached basketball and served as a track coach for many years. Frank Connor was active during his retirement and maintained memberships in the NEA of New Hampshire, the Sullivan County Retired Educators Association, the New Hampshire Retired Educators Association, and the National Council of Social Studies Teachers. He was a fellow of the Loyal Order of Moose where he served for many years as administrator, and he was Director of Investments for the Universalist Church in Claremont. Mr. Connor also served on the Claremont City Council for seven years. Frank was a devoted family man and was happiest when he was with them. He traveled often, visiting Japan, Russia, England, and Liberia in addition to the warm spots that he loved, including Hawaii and the Caribbean. His grandchildren loved to hear his stories of racing cars as a young man, piloting an airplane around New England, or driving his Harley-Davidson to college. He took great pleasure in following the stock market, with his family and friends often looking to him for investment advice. Frank had one of the best vegetable gardens in Claremont and always shared his produce with his friends. He will be remembered as one who had a great sense of humor and a cheery greeting for everyone. Surely his presence will be greatly missed. His surviving family includes his wife Dorothy and three children: Edith (Connor) Berger of Waldoboro, Maine, Beth Connor of Washington, Maine, and William (Bill) Connor of Berwick, Maine; one sister, Jane Nielsen of Sunapee, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Alex and Kirsten Connor and Mollie and Sophie Berger; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26th at 6 P.M. at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont. Memorial contributions may be made to Miles Home Health/Hospice, 40 Belvedere Rd., Damariscotta, Maine, 04543 |
