Fred M. Putnam, 78, of Windsor Road in Claremont, died Wednesday evening,
November 28, 2007 at the UMASS Medical Center in Worcester, MA, of a sudden
illness.
He was born in Walpole, NH on April 21, 1929 the son of Ellsworth and Ethel
Aurilla (Pierce) Putnam. He lived in Charlestown and had resided in
Claremont since 1955. He graduated from Vilas High School in Alstead and
attended UNH College but returned to the farm to help his parents before
graduating. He did dairy farming all his life and operated the Jarvis Farm
from 1955 to 2000, owned the Reed farm from 1976 to 2000. Fred made day
trips delivering all across NH and VT as a Dekalb brand seed dealer for over
thirty years. He was a member of the ASCS Committee for many years. He was
an avid hunter and a life long Red Sox fan.
He was the widower of Rosemary E. (Szuch) Putnam whom he married on Sept. 2,
1950 and she died Aug. 9, 2001.
The surviving family includes one daughter, Jean LeClair of Claremont; three
sons, Fred M. Putnam Jr. of Brandon, VT, Ellsworth Putnam of Cornish and
Scott Putnam of Claremont; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Ted Putnam and Paul Putnam both of Charlestown; one sister, Celia
Putnam of Fresno, CA and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two
brothers, Donald Putnam and Morris Putnam and two sisters, Dorothy
Richardson and Beatrice Blackington.
Friends and family may call Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6
to 8 PM at the Stringer Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 8pm with Elder Don Wormser of the Claremont
Jehovah Witnesses, officiating.
The family suggest that donations may be made in his memory to the American
Diabetes Association, 249 Canal Street, Manchester, NH 03101-2316 or the
American Heart Association, 2 Wall Street, Manchester, NH 03101-1518.
