George H. Smith, 90, of East Street in Charlestown, died May 30, 2006 at
Haven Health Center of Claremont.

He was born and raised in Alstead, NH on May 25, 1916 the son of John A. and
Rosa (Baine) Smith and had resided in Charlestown since 1949.

Mr. Smith was a woodsman all his life and retired from Fellows Gear Shaper
Co. in Springfield, VT in 1981 where he worked packing & shipping drills and
in maintenance.  He enjoyed going to the fairs and watching the horse
pulling and loved his black cat, "Pretty Kitty".

He was the widower of Ruth L. (Bailey) Smith whom he married on June 22,
1937 and she died in 1990.

The surviving family includes five children, Alan Smith of Cornish, Loretta
Gosselin of Springfield, VT, Faye Butterfield of Charlestown, Sally Turitz
and Nancy Starr both of Bradenton, FL; twelve grandchildren; fifteen
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine
Adams of Marlow and Bernease Johnson of Charlestown and nieces and nephews.

Graveside committal services will be held Monday morning, June 5th at Eleven
O'clock in Forrest Hills Cemetery in Charlestown with Rev. Malcolm Grobe,
Interim Pastor of the Charlestown Congregational Church, officiating.   The
Stringer's Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street in Charlestown is in
charge of arrangements.
