George William Lawton, 74, of Fountain Way in W. Lebanon, formerly of Beechwood Drive in Cornish Flat, died Tuesday afternoon, November 1, 2005 at Genesis Health Care in Lebanon. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 18, 1931 the son of Hugo and Margaret (McCauley) Lawton. He was a graduate of St Ann's Academy in NYCity in 1948 and was also in the 107 Regiment Combat Team of the National Guard for ten years. He lived in Brooklyn, NY for twenty-three years, in Long Island, NY for thirty-two years and worked for the Port Authority of New York in maintenance as an electrical supervisor for thirty-five years and retired on January 18, 1986. He and his wife owned a home in Cornish Flat since 1974 and moved there permanently in 1986 and lived in W. Lebanon for the past couple of years. Mr. Lawton was a former communicant and usher at St Joseph's Church in Claremont and was a member of Port Authority Retirees Association and the Retired Public Employees Association of NY. He enjoyed electronics, classical music and radio control planes. The surviving family includes his wife, Jacqueline Agnes (Maguire) Lawton of W. Lebanon, whom he married on February 14, 1954; two sons, George H. Lawton and his wife, Rose of Claremont and Thomas G, Lawton of Boston, MA; one daughter, Victoria A. Schultz and her husband Edward of Ronkonkoma, NY; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Lawton and John Lawton and two sisters, Rosella Warner and Mary O'Leary. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Friday evening from 5 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning, November 5th at Ten O'clock in St Joseph's Church, with Rev. Father Stanley J. Piwowar, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery. The family suggest that donations may be made in his memory to Genesis Health Care, 24 Old Etna Road, Lebanon, NH 03766. |
