Geraldine "Gerry" Miles, 87, of Edgewood Street in Claremont, died Monday evening, April 25, 2005 at the Valley Regional Hospital. She was a native and life long resident of Claremont, NH, born on August 1, 1917 the daughter of Omer J. and Annie Elizabeth (O'Gara) Dansereau. Geraldine was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of 1935 and Middlebury College in the Class of 1940. She started teaching school in Milton, VT High School and came to Stevens High School and taught in the science department. For eight years she was the music supervisor for all the elementary public schools in Claremont and retired in 1978 from Way School where she taught 6th grade for eight years. Geraldine was a communicant of St Mary Church, a very active member of the Stevens High School Alumni Association where she was on the Board of Directors and held other alumni positions throughout the years. She played the piano at the annual alumni banquets. She was a member of the Sullivan County and the Local and State Retired Teachers Association, a volunteer at Valley Regional Hospital, Maple Avenue and Middle School Orchestras and the Springfield Adult-Youth Orchestras. She also was a chairman of the American Red Cross Blood Program, a Ward I checklist supervisor and secretary of the Congress of Claremont Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing the piano and violin, loved her cat, Bootsie, and followed the Boston sports teams with enthusiasm. She was the widow of Morey C. Miles whom she married on December 30, 1942. He died June 16, 1996. The surviving family includes, three sons, John C. Miles and his wife, Rotha of Bellingham, WA, James M. Miles and his wife, Bonnie of Claremont and Richard C. Miles and his wife, Linda of East Lansing, MI; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Paul (Frances) Lovejoy of Rockaway, NJ also nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by one son, Robert E. Miles in 1955 and one sister, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Howard in 2004. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 29th at Eleven O'clock in St Mary Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St Mary Cemetery.
