Gertrude N. Bean, 82, of 7 Heritage Drive in Claremont, died Friday morning, June 29, 2007 at her home.

She was a native and nearly life long resident of Claremont, born on March 12, 1925 the daughter of Frank and Anna (Parent) Condon.  She lived in New Market, VA for five years.

Mrs. Bean retired in 1987 from Stevens Drug Store where she worked for two years as a sales clerk and had previously worked at Bucko’s Pharmacy for four years and at the Eagle Times for sixteen years as a proof reader.

She was an active member of St Joseph Church and at Heritage Drive. She enjoyed bingo, needle work, painting and ceramics.  Many years ago,

she taught sewing classes for the Singer Sewing Machine Co.

The surviving family includes her husband, Leonard Bean of Claremont whom she married on October 20, 1945; one daughter,  Joanne LaFlam and her husband, Arthur of Woodstock, VA; one son, Eric Bean and his wife, Katrina of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Scott LaFlam, Heather Kontoes, April Jones, Eric Bean and Michelle Barksedale; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister, Annette Condon and three brothers, Henry Condon, Edgar Condon and Joseph “Peaches”  Condon.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, July 2nd at Ten O’clock in St Joseph Church, with Rev. Richard Tetu, officiating.

Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery.
