Harriet Merrill "Hat" Page, 81, formerly of Bible Hill Road and currently at Silver Maples Retirement Home in Claremont, died Saturday afternoon, November 11, 2006 at the Valley Regional Hospital. She was born in Brattleboro, Vt. on March 20, 1925 the daughter of Howard and Miriam (Howard) Merrill and had resided in Claremont for nearly sixty years. She graduated from Brattleboro High School and from Sargent College at Boston University in 1947. She taught Physical Education for several years at Stevens High School upon graduation from college and also as a substitute teacher. Mrs. Page, better known as "Hat" was an active member of the First Congregational Church where she continued to sing in the choir and had served on the diaconate. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was previously active in the Republican Women's Club of Claremont. She enjoyed reading, volunteering to drive friends to appointments and vacationing in Wells, ME. She was the widow of Weston Osgood Page who died Sept. 1, 1984. The surviving family includes four sons, Bob Page of Missoula, MT; Jim Page and his wife, Amy Sherman of Millbrook, NY; Jeff Page and his wife, Karen of Adams, MA; and Ron Page and his wife, Carmen of Auburn, NH; five grandchildren, Jesse Page, Ethan Page, Amanda Vaine, Megan Paradis and husband, Phil and Jeffrey Page; two great-grandchildren, Maddie Vaine and Hunter Paradis; one brother, Frank Merrill and his wife, Betty of Brattleboro, Vt; and a sister-in-law, Betsey Merrill wife of Henry of Chesterfield, NH, also nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Henry Merrill. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, Nov. 16th at Ten-Thirty O'clock in the First Congregational Church in Claremont with Rev. Dr. Winn Alley, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Two O'clock in the Morningside Cemetery in Brattleboro, Vt. The family suggests that donations may be made in her memory to the First Congregational Church, 72 Pleasant Street, Claremont, NH 03743. |
