Herbert Winfield Nichols, 79, formerly of Pine Hill Mobile Home Park in
Claremont, died Thursday afternoon, December 29, 2005 at the Sullivan County
Health Care in Unity.

He was born in Claremont, NH on September 21, 1926 the son of Orson and
Sadie (Lombard) Nichols and had resided in Charlestown on the Old Claremont
Road most of his life.

Mr. Nichols was a veteran of World War II having service in the US Navy.

He worked as a machinist for the Claremont Paper Mill for ten years, was the
proprietor of Red's Service Station for several years and also worked at
Grobet File Company and the Cemetery Department all in Charlestown.

Mr. Nichols was a member of Faithful Lodge #12 F&AM and the Sugar River
Grange both of Charlestown.

He was the widower of Ruth (Scanlon) Nichols whom he married on February 23, 1957 and she died December 29, 1998.

The surviving family includes one daughter, Donna Pitkin of Charlestown;
four sons, David Nichols and Peter Nichols both of Concord, Timothy Nichols
of Claremont and Michael Nichols of Plainfield; ten grandchildren and nieces
and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Thelma Ferland, Vera LaClair,
Lillian French, Marion Forest and Norma Chisholm.

A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon, January 2nd at One O'clock
in the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont with Rev. Father
Stanley J. Piwowar, Pastor of St Joseph Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home of Monday from 12 to 1 PM prior to the
services.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his
memory to the Sullivan County Health Care, Hospice Program, 5 Nursing Home
Drive, Unity, NH 03743.
