Howard A. Stevens, 78, of Thrasher Road in Claremont, died Monday morning
July , 2007 at the Valley Regional Hospital. 

He was born in Fairlee, VT on November 23, 1928 the son of Moris and Aedel
(Lyns) Stevens  and had resided in Claremont most of his life.   Howard
worked for the City of Claremont Water Department for ten years, Bartlett
Tree Company in Walpole for a short time and lastly for E.D. Hodgdon
Auctioneer for forty years and retired in 1990. 

He was a member of the Twin State Speedway Hall of Fame, and loved dirt
track racing in Claremont and Fair Haven, VT, playing horseshoes, cards and
games with family and friends. He enjoyed furniture repair, watching boxing
and NASCAR racing especially #20 Tony Stewart his favorite.

He was the widower of Arlene F. (Mills) Stevens whom he married on Nov. 4,
1950 and she died Dec. 1, 2003.

The surviving family includes one son, Lawrence Stevens of Claremont; three
daughters, Rebecca Ford of Claremont, Rose Davis and Pamela Templeton both
of Florida; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Irene
Belize of Florida and nieces and nephews. 

He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Matthew Stevens; one sister, Margarette
Lafountain; and four brothers, Louis Stevens, Kenny Stevens, Royce Stevens
and George Stevens.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont
on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
