Howard H. Hale, age 78, passed away to be with his Lord on Sunday, August
26th at the Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity, NH where he had resided
since 2005. For 77 years he lived at 70 and 74 Maple Avenue in Claremont,
NH. He was born in Claremont on September 10, 1928, the youngest son of
Arthur T. Hale of NH and Gertrude F. (Blood) Hale of VT.
Howard was a member of the Stevens High School Class of 1947.
Having been a copper miner in Canada and a VT marble quarry worker, he then
became a route salesman for the Daily Eagle for about 18 years. His was the
longest auto delivery route in New England. After being baptized as a member
of the First Baptist Church of Claremont in 1948, he followed his religious
beliefs in serving his Savior, Jesus Christ, including preaching on 40
islands around the Bahamas and Nassau. He enjoyed being a volunteer at the
NH Baptist Camp Sentinel in Ossipee. His vocal talent led him to sing tenor
in church choirs, a chorus, and a quartet that sang in schools and churches
in the Claremont area. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation
and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.
Uncle Howie made Christmas special for his young nieces and
nephews by decorating their Grammy Hale's tree and acting as Santa Claus in
distributing gifts. At family gatherings he recorded the singing and
instrument playing festivities on his audio recorders.
A long-time, faithful missionary friend who had been a spiritual
son to him, Scott Blanchette, of Claremont, survives him. In addition, 7
nieces and nephews in AZ, CA, NH, SC, and VA, and two younger generations of
numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews survive him. He is also survived by
a former wife, Ruth Hale Hubbell of Lakeland, FL.
Howard Harlan Hale was predeceased by his parents; a sister,
Irma; and brothers, Ralph, Arthur, Jr., Floyd, and Lester Hale.
Committal service, with a celebration of the life of, Howard H. Hale, 78,
who died August 26, 2007, will be held at the gravesite in Mt. View Cemetery
off Main Street in Claremont on Saturday, October 13th .
A time of visiting will begin at Ten O'clock.
Pastor David Ackerman will officiate.
