John Edward O'Neil, Sr., 69, formerly of Springfield, VT and Granby, CT,
died peacefully in Claremont, NH, on January 25, 2007 after a long illness.
He was born in Bellows Falls, VT on August 22, 1937, the son of the late
Joseph O'Neil of Boston, MA and Helen (Zeno) O'Neil of Bellows Falls, VT.
John known to his friends and family as "Jack" or "Jackie", attended
Springfield High School, and was an enthusiastic participant in the Class of
1956 Alumni celebration this past summer. Upon moving back to the area, John
loved to visit his fellow classmates and friends. His quick wit and Irish
charm always served him well. He will be greatly missed by all.
After a stint in the Air Force, John settled in Kalamazoo, MI and then in
Granby, CT. He was a loyal employee of Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, CT, for
over thirty-five years. John first worked as a Machinist's Assistant and
then as a Chemical Engineer. After retiring in 1998, John engaged in one of
his passions, cars. He helped run the Hartford Auto Auction in Windsor, CT.
John was pre-deceased by his first wife, Cecilia Kozlick of Kalamazoo, MI.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dempsey-Ward of Bloomfield, CT; six
children, Russell O'Neil of Huntsville, AL, Colleen O'Neil and Kelly O'Neil
both of Kalamazoo, MI, John O'Neil, Jr. of Claremont, NH, Moria (O'Neil)
Armstrong of Springfield, VT and Tara O'Neil of Bennington, VT; two
stepchildren, Timothy O'Neil of Windsor, CT and Alana Dobbins of Kalamazoo,
MI; one sister, Sally (O'Neil) Williams of Vancouver, British Columbia; one
nephew, Jay Williams of Ontario, Canada; twelve grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren; one aunt, Eleanor McDermott, formerly of Bellows Falls,
VT.
A time of fellowship and sharing will be held at the Knights Hall on Central
Street in Claremont on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:30 PM.
A Graveside service will be held Monday, January 29, 2007 at Eleven O'clock
in St Charles Cemetery in Bellows Falls, VT.
