John (Jack) Rock, 83, of Harrington Road in Cornish died Saturday morning,
July 28, 2007 at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover after a long illness.
He was born in Lyndon, Vt. on January 24, 1924, the son of John P. and Sarah
G. (Randall) Rock.
Jack is survived by MayBelle (Teenie) F. (Perkins) Rock of Cornish, whom he
married on August 14, 1946; one son, Seward J. Rock of Cornish; two
daughters, Sherry J. Cass of Cornish and Carmen T. Pinsonault of Unity; nine
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Phillip (Bo) Rock of
Cornish; three sisters, Charlotte Brooks of West Franklin, N.H., Phyllis
McKenney of Claremont, a twin sister Margaret Mace of Cornish; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Cedric Rock and Russell Rock; and a
great-granddaughter, Rebecca Pratt.
Jack grew up on a farm in Wheelock, Vt. until moving to Cornish when he was
thirteen years old and remained there for the following 70 years. He was an
Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European, African, and
Middle Eastern Theater of Operations with Company A, 309th Infantry
Regiment. He battled and campaigned in Rome, Arno and Rhineland. He received
several decorations and citations including the Purple Heart and the Rifle
Sharpshooter. He worked at Goddard's Bakery as a truck mechanic and then as
an auto mechanic at Howe Motors. After retiring from Cone Blanchard as a
machinist in 1986, he served as Sexton for the Town of Cornish from 1988 -
2001. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and coon dog racing. He
would do anything for his family and was a genuine people person.
There will be no calling hours. His ashes will not be committed until he is
joined someday by his wife.
