John Terrell, 84, of Highland Avenue in Claremont, NH, died Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 2006 at the Valley Regional Hospital. He was born in New Haven, CT on October 12, 1921 the son of Elwood and Margaret (McConnell) Terrell. He resided in Claremont for the past four years and previously lived in Lempster, NH for nine years and in Sandwich, MA for seven years and in Westport, CT for twenty-one years. He graduated from Hamden High School in 1940 and received his BS degree in 1950 from Georgetown University. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy. Mr. Terrell retired, Dec. 31, 1980 as the Director of Public Relations for Sears Roebuck where he worked for twenty-eight years. He was a member of the Fiske Free Library Board, a Lempster Library Trustee, the Lempster-Goshen School Board and previously a Westport Library Trustee, a Westport Representative to Town Meeting, Westport Little League, Westport Recreation Commission and Westport Police Athletic League. He was the widower of Jane K. (Beirne) Terrell whom he married on June 25, 1943 and she died Jan. 10, 1992. The surviving family includes one daughter, Christine F. Terrell and her husband , Dan Truesdell of Claremont; two sons, James B. Terrell and his wife, Diane of Harvard, IL and Andrew J. Terrell and his wife, Megan Waterhouse of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Caitlin Terrell and Ian Terrell both of Alexandria, VA and Kathryn Terrell of Harvard, IL and Erin Truesdell of Claremont. He was pre-deceased by a son, John G. Terrell, two brothers, Merritt Terrell and Eugene Terrell. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, March 8th at Ten O'clock at St Joseph Church with Rev. Father Stanley J. Piwowar, Pastor officiating. Interment will be Thursday, March 9th at Ten-thirty in the morning in the Assumption Cemetery in Westport, CT.
