Lawrence F. LaFrance, 68, passed away at home on June 20, 2006, in Newport, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 6, 1938, in Claremont, New Hampshire, he was the son of Floyd E. and Irene J. LaFrance. He was raised and attended schools in Claremont. During his teenage years he assisted his father in the logging and wood and Christmas tree business, including logging with a team of horses. As a young man he learned carpentry skills and built homes in the Claremont and Newport area. He later expanded his skills to include concrete work. He was a foreman on many jobs constructing bridges in NH, MA and VT for several large construction companies. He was proud to have been part of constructing many bridges in the region. He would often share his expertise about each bridge, on site, with friends and family. Later, he worked with his brother-in-law and sister, upgrading and maintaining their resort facility in Chocorua, NH. He was also a master mechanic and able to repair everything. He was an avid self-taught man, being knowledgeable in most areas of learning. He loved to share his knowledge with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, riding his golf cart and rebuilding motors. He especially loved driving the back roads of New Hampshire sharing history and stories of the area. He is survived by two sons, Joe LaFrance Moulton and family of Newport and L. Alan LaFrance and his wife Jane of Orlando, Florida; three daughters, Alyson LaFrance and Cyrille Techer, Nadeen Wentzell and her husband Dean of Newport and Nicole LaFrance and Shawn Randall of Unity. Other survivors include a sister, Shirley Spencer and her husband Lee of Lee, NH; a half sister, Doris LaFrance Wilson and her husband, Walter of Pocono Pines, PA; a half brother, Robert F. LaFrance of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, Ashley Swain, Hillary and Chandler Wentzell, Forest and Autumn Randall; nieces and nephews, Bonnie Spencer, Tamara Spencer and Shannon Spencer; cousins, Ernest Johnson and Carleton Tarrian and wife, Donna. He was predeceased by his brother, Roger F. LaFrance. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be held Saturday morning, June 24th at Nine O'clock in the Funeral Home with Rev. Donna Leslie, Pastor of the Croydon Flat Church, officiating. Interment will be Saturday afternoon at Three O'clock in the Chocorua Cemetery on Route 113 in Chocorua, NH The family suggests that donations may be made in his memory to the Children's Hospital At Dartmouth, CHAD Program, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001. |
