Leroy Harry Hurlburt, 79, of Charlestown, NH, died February 26, 2005. He served as a chief cook in the US Maritime Service during World War II and the US Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. Formerly a resident of Madison, CT, he became an accomplished chef on the Connecticut shoreline. Among his best known restaurants was "LeRoy’s Restaurant" in downtown Madison. In 1976 he and his late wife moved to Claremont, NH to open the Goddard Mansion, a retirement home, which they ran for 10 years. He was a former member of the Elks Club in Westbrook, CT and recently served on the vestry of St Luke's Episcopal Church in Charlestown, NH. He is survived by his wife, Alma (Knipping) Hurlburt, of Charlestown, NH; daughter, Marylin Eastwood of Cambridge, MA and sons, Alan Hurlburt of Madison, CT and Scott Hurlburt of Orange, CT. All were children with his first wife, Ethel Erickson, of Madison, CT. He also leaves an extended family of stepchildren and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Bernice I. (Zeigler) Hurlburt, second wife, Sally (Kirkland) Hurlburt, brother Gerald Hurlburt and several half brothers and sisters. Interment will be at the Hammonassett Cemetery, River Road, Madison, CT at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 7, followed by a 12:30 p.m. memorial service at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 232 Durham Road, Madison, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St Luke's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 326, Charlestown, NH 03603. |
