Melvin Rice, 94, a former long time resident of Lindy Avenue and 67 Maple
Avenue in Claremont, died Wednesday afternoon, January 3, 2007 at the Haven
Health Center of Claremont.  He was born in Springfield, VT on March 2, 1912
the son of Edgar and Ivie (Allan) Rice and resided in Claremont since 1933.
He retired in 1977 from Cone Blanchard Machine Co. in Windsor, VT where he
worked as a tool designer for forty-two years.

He was a member of the Claremont Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1201 and the
Windsor, Vermont Masonic Lodge #18.

He was the widower of Katherine J. (Moretti) Rice whom he married on Oct.
13, 1934 and she died June 3, 1985.

Family includes two daughters, Betty Ann Walker of Aiken, SC,  and Patty
Jane Sweet and her husband Raymond of Wakefield, RI;  four grandchildren;
one sister, Mildred Wood formerly of Woodstock, VT  and currently of
Raeford, NC; a godchild, Donna Coombs of Charlestown, NH.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Friday
evening from 6 to 8 PM.

The Moose Lodge will conduct their service at 7 PM Friday evening; the
Masonic Lodge  will conduct their service at 7:15 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 PM following the Masonic services with
Rev. Margaret Long Pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in the New Fernwood Cemetery, in Kingston,
RI.
