Norman Charles Hurlburt, 88, of Hogback Road in Claremont, died Monday
afternoon, March 5, 2007 at his home.
He was born in New Haven, CT on April 29, 1918 the son of Purley and Elsie
(Voss) Hurlburt and resided in Claremont since 1957.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army from 1940 to
1945. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with two
service stars, a Purple Heart and an American Defense Service Medal.
In Connecticut he worked for Winchester Arms, the New Haven Water Dept., and
as a carpenter. The family moved to Plainfield, NH where he worked as a
carpenter, then moved to Claremont where he worked for the Claremont Water
Department for twenty years. He retired in 1975.
He enjoyed fishing with family and friends and followed the stock market.
He was the widower of Marjorie Marie (Lovig) Hurlburt whom he married on
Sept. 14, 1946. She died January 29, 1994.
He is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Philip (Marie C.) DiMarzio of
Nashua, Marjorie A. Rock and Mrs. Richard M. (Sharon J.) Michalenoick both
of Claremont; five grandchildren; two great-grand-children; his companion;
"Polly" Martel, who never refused to accompany him on his many fishing
excursions; two brothers, Robert Hurlburt of Brookside, Utah and Harold
Hurlburt of Atascadero, Calif.; one sister, Agnes DePoyster of Lakewood, CO.
also nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street
in Claremont on Thursday morning, March 8th at Ten O'clock with Rev. Dr.
Winn Alley, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery with military honors.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 9 to 10 AM prior to
the services.
