Norman "Tim" Hines, 48, of Twistback Road in Claremont, died Saturday afternoon, March 11, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his wife and family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Keene, NH on October 8, 1957 the son of Lyndon and Dorothy (Boyd) Taylor Hines and had resided in Claremont most of his life. Tim had worked for the Claremont School District for the past twelve years as a custodian at the Claremont Middle School and Bluff School and also part-time for Scott Gentes General Contracting for the past four years. He was previously self-employed at T & J Painting, worked at Integrated Health Services in maintenance and for eighteen years he was a truck driver and rewinder operator at the Claremont Paper Mill. He and his wife owned and operated the Movie Place Video Store for several years. Tim retired in 2005 as chairman of the Claremont Junior Sports League where he served for twenty-six years and received Claremont's "Unsung Hero" award twice, the last being in 2005. He helped build a solid roller skating program and was dedicated to the youth in the city. He also kept the Northern Lights Program going for several years. He was a member of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Posse and Claremont Area Relief Emergency Services. The surviving family includes his wife, Joyce (Therrien) Hines of Claremont; two sons whom he took extreme pride in, Travis J. Hines of Wilmington, NC and Jacob J. Hines of Claremont; one sister, Judy Fifield of Claremont; one brother, Kenneth D. Hines of Enfield; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Taylor in 2004, a brother, Joseph L. "Joe Joe" Hines in 1974 and a sister, Betty Lou Hines in 2003. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, March 15th at Eleven O'clock in St Joseph Church with Rev. Father Stanley J. Piwowar, Pastor officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
