Regina Cecile Raymond, 68, of the Langdon Road in Charlestown, died Sunday,
July 8, 2007 at her home surrounded by friends and family.
She was born on November 17, 1938 in Rutland, VT, the daughter of Edward
Benjamin and Regina (Grenon) Raymond.
She attended Rutland Public Schools and Mount St Joseph's Academy where she
was graduated in 1956 with high honors.
She studied and was graduated from Rivier College in Nashua in 1967 majoring
in biology, minoring in chemistry, education, theology and French. In 1974
she received a Master of Science in biology from Rivier College. Her
Master's Thesis was "The Feasibility of Constructing a Nature Trail in the
Rivier College Campus Woods." She taught in the parochial schools of New
Hampshire as a Sister of Presentation of Mary: St John the Evangelist,
Hudson; Notre Dame High School, Berlin and Bishop Brady High School,
Concord. She also worked in radiopharmaceuticals for about five years. In
1982 she joined the faculty of New Hampshire Community Technical College in
Claremont teaching microbiology, anatomy, physiology and path physiology in
the Allied Health programs. She made many positive contributions to the
college and its curriculum, including designing lab components for
microbiology and general biology courses.
She was faculty advisor and an honorary member of the Alpha Delta Chi
Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa the international honor society for two year
colleges from 1986 to 1998. In 1987 she was chosen "Teacher of the Year" by
the students and members of Phi Theta Kappa.
Professor Raymond was a team player well respected by her peers, staff and
students. She enjoyed teaching at the college level interacting with the
students.
Regina liked her cats, nature, yard work, hiking, bird watching and singing.
She sang with her high school and college choruses. In 1955 she represented
Mount St Joseph's Academy in the Vermont All State Chorus. Later she sang
with the Nashua Choral Society and for twenty years with the Springfield, VT
Community Chorus. With this group she served on the executive board as
secretary, then president. She also sang with the St Mary's Church Choir of
Claremont and was a Cantor, Eucharistic Minister, lector and served on the
parish council at St Catherine's of Siena Church of Charlestown.
She enjoyed attending live opera performances by Opera North, Granite State
Opera and Raylynmor Opera.
She is survived by her sisters, Yvonne Baker and her husband, Robert of
Essex Jct., VT and Marie Cibotti of Vero Beach, FL and nieces and nephews.
Her oldest sister Celestine Fox of Rutland died in 1995 and her brother
Francis of Wilmington, NC died in 1999.
There are no viewing hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 18th at
Eleven O'clock in St Catherine of Siena Church in Charlestown with Rev.
Father Michael Gendron, Pastor officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in the family lot in St Joseph's Cemetery
in Rutland, VT.
The Stringer's Charlestown Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
In 2002 she retired from the Community College because of declining health.
The Connecticut Valley Home Care has been providing care and support to her
after her recent decision to discontinue further chemotherapy and other
treatments.
