Richard Joseph Schiffmacher, 77, of the Old Claremont Road in Charlestown, died Sunday morning, August 20, 2006 at the Springfield Health and Rehab Center in Springfield, VT. He was born in Buffalo, NY on December 21, 1928 the son of William Albert and Barbara (Seyller) Schiffmacher. He resided in Charlestown for the past twenty-two years and formerly lived in Springfield, MA for several years. Richard was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Air Force and was in the reserves during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1964. He was a part-time shoe salesman, having been disabled from the service and not able to work a full time job. Mr. Schiffmacher was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Faith Christian Church of Bellows Falls and a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen Association. The surviving family includes his wife, Louise Florence (Blauvelt) Pelton Schiffmacher of Charlestown, whom he married on October 10, 1982; ; three step-children, Susan Goding of Springfield, VT, Donald Pelton of Claremont and Ellen Pelton of Charlestown; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Kenneth, Joshua, Nicholas, Jeremy, Whitney and Joshua; two brothers, William Schiffmacher of Oxnard, CA and Robert Schiffmacher of Downey, CA; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening, August 23rd at Seven O'clock in the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street with Rev. Donald Hashem, Pastor of the Faith Christian Church, officiating. Friends may call at the Chapel from 6 to 7 O'clock prior to the services. Graveside committal services will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday in Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown. |
