Robert Allen Williams. Sr., 75, of Bascom Road in Newport, died Wednesday,
May 16, 2007 at his home.
He was born in Claremont, NH on March 13, 1932 the son of George D. and
Madeleine (Johnson) Williams. He had resided in Claremont most of his life
and lived in Newport for the past fourteen years.
Mr. Williams retired as superintendent in 1994 from Homestead Industries and
had previously worked for Dartmouth Woolen Mill, Dorr Woolen Mill and
Brampton Woolen Mill.
He was an avid softball player and pitched for the Claremont Softball League
and previously with the Windsor league. He loved bowling as well as being a
NASCAR fan and going to the NH Speedway, and going to the dog races. In the
60's, he and his son had a stock car, "Jollywally" on the old Claremont
Speedway dirt track. He also loved his family and reading.
Mr. Williams was a member of the Claremont Moose Lodge #1201.
He was the widower of Irene Mae (Robbins) Williams whom he married on
October 4, 1969 and she died November 25, 2006.
The surviving family includes two sons, Robert A. Williams, Jr. and his
wife, Rose of Meredith, Randall D. Williams and his wife, Susan of Cornish;
two step-sons, Allen R. Langlois and his wife, Madeline of Claremont and
Wally N. Langlois and his wife, Jo of Newport; eight grandchildren; nine
great-grand-children; two brothers, Donald Williams of AZ and Roy Williams
of Lempster; one sister, Mary Jane Massey of TN and nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Edith Griffin in 1999 and Marjorie Dyer
in 1986.
Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont
on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning, May 19th at Eleven O'clock
at the Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Winn Alley, Pastor of the First
Congregational Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt View Cemetery.
The family suggests that donations may be made in his memory to the Norris
Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001.
