Robert E. "Bob" Stone, 88, formerly of East Street in Claremont, died Monday morning, August 14, 2006 at the McCoy Home For The Elderly in Newport. He was a native and nearly life long resident of Claremont, NH, born on July 22, 1918 the son of Ubald and Agnes (Young) Stone. He was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of 1936 and was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. Mr. Stone was a life member of Father Cote Council #1820 Knights of Columbus and a life member of the American Legion Post #29 of Claremont. Robert and his wife owned and operated the former Gaudreau's Super Market/ I.G.A. Store at 181 North Street and the Tumble Inn Diner for several years and retired from the Public Utilities Supply and Service, Inc. He was the widower of Claire T. (Gaudreau) Stone whom he married on September 21, 1940 and she died January 8, 2002 and was also predeceased by a brother, Richard Stone. The surviving family includes one daughter, Victoria A. Orvis and her husband, Jon C. of Newport, VT; one granddaughter, Kathleen A. Pecue and her husband, Greg of Derby, VT; one grandson, Scott J. Orvis and his wife, Michelle of Rawleigh, NC; two great-granddaughters, Emily B. Pecue of Derby, VT and Claire K. Orvis of Rawleigh, NC; two great-grandsons, Taylor J. Pecue and Benjamin T. Pecue both of Derby, VT and several cousins. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Members of the Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at the Funeral Home at 7 PM for services and the American Legion are asked to meet at 7:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, Aug. 18th at Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery. |
