Robert J. Meehan, 79, of Delight Dr. in Jacksonville, NC, died September 29,
2007 at the Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH.
He was born in New Britain, CT on July 3, 1928 the son of Francis and
Margaret (McCue) Meehan. He resided in New Britain, CT most of his life and
in Jacksonville, NC for the past 21 years.
He retired as a dispersing officer, WO1, from the US Marine Corp in 1968
where he served for 20 years and was in Vietnam.
He later worked as a payroll manager for Fafnir Bearing Co in New Britain,
CT for 17 years and retired in 1985.
Mr. Meehan was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, the VFW Post, the
American Legion Post the Fleet Reserve Association and a life member of the
DAV #16 all of Jacksonville, NC.
He was an avid bowler for many years.
The Surviving family includes his wife, Sharon E. (McTigue) of Jacksonville,
NC whom he married on July 28, 1979; two sons, Jeffrey Meehan and his wife,
Joann of Wolcott, CT and Gary Meehan of Bristol, CT; three daughters, Robin
Scotti and her husband Robert of Cromwell, CT, Lori Turner and her husband
John of Bristol, CT and Elizabeth Anderson and her husband Ricky of
Pinnacle, NC; eight grandchildren, Kevin and Bryan Meehan, Kimberly and
Amanda Scotti, Kyle and Jack Turner and Megan and Matthew Anderson; two
great-grandchildren, Jakob and Melanie Meehan; three brothers, John Meehan
of Kensington, CT, William Meehan of Provo, UT and Joseph Meehan of
Middletown, CT; one sister, Ramona Polaske of Berlin, CT also one aunt and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two sisters,
Alice Middleton and Patricia Fichman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 4th at Ten
O'clock in St Mathews Church in Forestville, CT.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 6th at Ten O'clock at
the Infant of Prague Church in Jacksonville, NC.
Interment with full military honors will follow in Costal Carolina State
Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the D.A.V., 300
Sherwood Road, Jacksonville, NC 28546.
The Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC is in charge of local
arrangements.
