Robert William Pelton, 70, of Dartmouth Street in Claremont, died Wednesday
morning, March 14, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He
was a native and life long resident of Claremont, NH, born on October 17,
1936 the son of Robert M. and Marion (Arquiett) Pelton.
Robert graduated from Stevens High School in the Class of 1956 and enlisted
in the US Army for a tour of duty in Europe, joining the 11th Calvary
Regiment Tank Division Border Patrol from 1956 to 1958 and was discharged
from the Army Reserves in 1962.
He was employed by Cushman Company, Coca Cola Company and Wonder Bread. He
worked for the Department of Corrections State of Vermont for 25 years:
Windsor Prison from 71-75, St, Albans Prison from 75-82, Chittenden Prison
from 82-85 and Woodstock Prison from 85-95. Upon retiring in 1995 he worked
for a short time for Helie's Carpet and also for several years for the
Community Transportation Service.
Robert enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, boating, motorcycling and driving his
corvettes. He liked spending vacation time in Maine and New England. He
always looked forward to his football games and boxing matches. Robert is
loved by so many and he shall be missed. A quote from Robert's High School
Yearbook reads; Robert W. Pelton: "As merry as the day is long."
The surviving family includes his wife, Barbara (Martino) Wright Pelton of
Claremont whom he married on December 9, 2000; his mother, Marion Pelton of
the Sullivan County Health Care in Unity; two sons, Keith Pelton and his
wife, Darlene of Charlestown and Michael Pelton of Windham, VT; three
grandsons, Josh Pelton of Alstead, Jeremy Pelton and Johnny Pelton of
Springfield, VT; a granddaughter, Meagen Pelton of Charlestown; a
great-granddaughter, Cayleigh Pelton of Alstead; a step-son, Jeffrey Nigle
Wright and his girlfriend, Donna Curtis of Claremont; a step-daughter, Shari
(Wright) Theriault and her husband, Steven of Claremont; two
step-grand-daughters, Melissa Wright and Kristin Noll both of Claremont;
three step-grand-sons, Bryan Nigle Wright of Sharon, VT, Trey Theriault and
Ty Theriault both of Claremont; a step-great-granddaughter, Lauren Noll; a
sister, Patricia (Pelton) Daley and her husband, Matthew of West Lebanon; an
aunt, Ruth Trombley of Brushton, NY; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Martino of
Brattleboro, VT; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and
nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his father in 1981 and an infant son in 1978.
Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Sunday
evening from 5 to 8 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Monday morning, March 19th at
Eleven O'clock in St Joseph Church with Rev. Father Stanley J. Piwowar,
Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Hope Hill Cemetery in North Charlestown on Saturday May 5th at 3 PM.
