She was a native and life long resident of Claremont, NH, born on April 28, 1938 the daughter of William A. and Jean L. (Hayman) Kirn, Jr. Sandra was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of “56” and a graduate of Endicott Jr. College in 1958 with an Associates Degree. She worked at the Lahey Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, also for Dr. Robert Lanzer and the Claremont Visiting Nurses Association and worked with her husband at Don’s Market on Mulberry Street. Sandra was a lifetime communicant of the First Congregational Church, a 35 year member of Woodman-Aurora Chapter #26 Order of Easter Star, a member of the S.P.C.A., Sullivan County 4-H Leaders Association, a 26 year 4-H leader, state 4-H records judge, state chaperone of National 4-H Congress, Chicago, ILL, 6 years on the 4-H Sullivan County Board and the Ladies Union Aid Society. A former director of American Red Cross, the Board of Directors of Sullivan County Hospice, a Clerk of Ward I, Claremont Garden Club and Stevens High School Alumni Association Committee. The surviving family includes her husband, Edward J. Mercier, III of Claremont whom she married on July 12, 1970; two daughters, Jody Blaney Race of West Unity and Valori Mercier Petrin of Grafton; three grandchildren, William E. Race, Shafer E. Race and Zachary M. Petrin; one uncle, John Kirn of Windham, NH and several very close cousins and many dear friends and classmates. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, William T. Blaney, Jr. in 1988 and her parents, William A. and Jean (Hayman) Kirn both in 2001. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 21st at Eleven O’clock in the Stringer Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Sanborn of the West Unity Community Church, officiating. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from ten to eleven o’clock prior to the services. Friends are encouraged to wear bright, colorful clothing in honor of Sandra’s love of gardening or Red & Black Cardinal Spirit wear for her devotion and love of the Class of “56” and the Stevens High School Alumni Association. Interment will be in Mt View Cemetery at a later date in the spring.
