Sidney J. Erskine, 56, of West Unity Road in West Unity, NH, died Thursday morning, September 22, 2005 at his home after a three year battle with cancer. He was born in New London, NH on December 12, 1948 the son of Sedric and Mona (Wells) Erskine and resided in West Unity for the past twenty years. He was a graduate of Windsor High School and served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He was employed at Pine Tree Castings in Newport where he worked in maintenance and welding for the past ten years and previously worked for Miller Construction and Temple East-Tex. He was a member of the Fort 4 Rod & Gun Club, the American Historical Truck Society and the Claremont Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1201. Sid enjoyed hot rods, bulldozers, tractors, snowmobiles, skeet shooting and just about everything that involved the outdoors. The surviving family includes his wife, Elaine M. (Morse) Erskine of Unity, whom he married on Nov. 3, 1979; one son, E-6 Michael Alan Cass, US Navy-Electronic Technician 1, Norfolk, VA; step-son, William Joseph Cass of Claremont; a granddaughter, Katelynn Cass; two brothers, Sedric Erskine of Windsor, VT and Senical Erskine of Galvin's Ferry, SC; one sister, Sallie Rose of Windsor, VT; two half sisters, Phylis Blanchard and Jackie Metcalf both of Sarasota, FL; a half brother, Ronald Erskine of Wells River, VT; also nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Dianna Cheney. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 PM. A Memorial Service will be held Monday morning, Sept. 26th at Eleven O'clock in the Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Winn Alley, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt View Cemetery.
