Stanley T. "Teddy" Merrill, Jr., 61 of South Hemlock Road In Charlestown, died Thursday morning at the Springfield Hospital. He fought a long and courageous battle with his disease. He was born in Springfield, VT on August 2, 1944 the son of Stanley T. and Alice (Holden) Merrill, Sr. and had resided in Charlestown all his life. He worked M & W Soil/Engineering as a driller and laborer and previously for Bomar, Silas Tree Service and Burt Anchor and Curb doing welding and for Jones & Lamson in Springfield, VT for twenty years. He was part of the family softball team and later played for the town of Alstead in the Connecticut Valley League and won the championship. He was a Red Sox and Patriot fan. Teddy had countless friends throughout his life which was a tribute to his wonderful personality. He loved his family and was a devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes and listening to country music. He was preceded in death by his first wife of twenty-eight years, Brenda Jane (Robie) Merrill who died on May 6, 1999. The surviving family includes his wife, Arlene Merrill of Charlestown whom he married on August 6, 2005; one son, Randy Merrill; one daughter, Melissa Merrill both of Charlestown; three grandchildren; Misty Blake, Brooklyn Merrill and Gage Bergeron; six step-children, Michelle Gosnell, Billie Jo Jackman, Kevin Russell, Denise Croteau, Julie Myers and Miranda Watts; sixteen step-grandchildren; his mother, Alice Merrill; three brothers, Gary Merrill and his wife, Sandy, Danny Merrill and his wife, Midge all of Charlestown, and Ronnie Merrill of Claremont; one sister, Sandra Hoskings and her husband John of Charlestown and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street in Charlestown on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, February 25th at Eleven O'clock at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel with Rev. Cynthia J. Batten, officiating.
