Stella Aldea Rogers, 88, a former long time resident of 18 West Pleasant Street in Claremont, died Friday evening, December 9, 2005 at the Mt Ascutney Hospital and Health Care Nursing Facility of Windsor, VT, where she had been a patient for the past two years. She was a native and life long resident of Claremont, NH, born on May 5, 1917 the daughter of Edward T. and Laurina R. (Bonneau) McLaughlin. Stella was very proud of having attended St Mary's Grammar School and graduated from St Mary's High School in the Class of 1935. Stella took great pleasure in her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren. She was closely involved in the lives of her grandchildren over the years and was always there to offer them encouragement and support. She took great pride in being an alumni of St Mary's High School and was actively involved in the St Mary's Alumni Association until declining health prevented her participation. Stella was very proud to be a native of Claremont. She very much enjoyed working at the polls, summer band concerts in the park and attending school and community events. She was happy to see Claremont change and grow throughout the years and loved experiencing new events such as the First Night Celebrations. After high school she worked as a clerk at JJ Newberry's and later at the International Shoe Shop. She also worked part-time at the Magnet Theater and the Claremont Drive-In. She was employed for sixteen years as a clerk for the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation and retired in 1979. She also worked at the polls for Ward II for many years. Mrs. Rogers was a member for nearly 70 years of Court Virgil H. Barber #892 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, also a member of the St Anne Society, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, former member and officer of the Way School PTA, a former member and officer of the Stevens High School Friends of Music, the St Mary's Alumni Association and a communicant of St Mary's Church. She was the widow of James E. Rogers whom she married on September 4, 1939 and he died December 2, 1986. The surviving family includes three children, Anne Evensen and her husband, Edward of Claremont, James P. Rogers and his wife, Joanne of Cornish and Martha McGuire of Gilford; six grandchildren, Erik Evensen of Dover, NH, Keira Evensen of Concord, Danielle Smith and Mason McGuire both of Ft Lauderdale, FL, Samantha Mann of Manchester and Amanda Dawdy of Ft Walton Beach, FL; two great-grandchildren, Anastasia Mann and Riley Mann; one brother, Charles A. McLaughlin, a native of Claremont and currently in Andover, MA and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, Dec. 14th at Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. Members of the Catholic Daughters and the St Anne Society are asked to meet at the Funeral Home on Tuesday evening at 7 PM for services.
