Theo J. Young, 87, of Hillside Terrace in Claremont, died Saturday morning, September 30, 2006 at her home. She was born in North Woodstock, NH on January 16, 1919 the daughter of Alfred Mark and Elsie (Campbell) James. She graduated from Plymouth High School and Wilfred Beauty Academy. Mrs. Young lived in N. Hampton, NH for nine years, New London, NH for thirty-one years and in Claremont for the past year. She owned and operated Wilfred Beauty Shop and Bernat Yarn Shop on Maple Avenue in Claremont for twenty years and also was a seamstress mostly in New London. She was very talented in arts and crafts, sewing, knitting and Crewel embroidery. Mrs. Young was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Swift Water Girl Scout Council, a member and Past Nobel Grand of Woodbury Rebekah Lodge #61 all of Claremont and a juried member of the League of NH Craftsman. She was the widow of Richard O. Young whom she married on Oct. 26, 1940 and he died Feb. 8, 1970. The surviving family includes three daughters, Judith A. "Judy" Putnam and her late husband, Perry of Claremont, Caroline J. Merchant and her husband, John of Claremont and Donna J. Young of Goshen; three grandchildren, Jessica Norton, Amy Putnam and Aaron Putnam; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Austin and Kodi Putnam; two brothers, Paul M. James of Tampa, FL and Joseph Davock of Parsons Field, ME; one sister, Marilyn Douglas of Burlington, VT and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Alfred James. Private graveside committal services will be held Saturday morning in Mt View Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Winn Alley, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating.
