Victor Potvin, 68, of 5 Stringer Lane, died Saturday, January 6, 2007 at his
home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in Claremont, NH May 4, 1938, the son of Fabien and Germaine
(Lacasse) Potvin.
Victor has lived in Claremont most of his life. He was a graduate of St.
Mary's High School class of 1956, also of Central Technical Institute in
Kansas City, MO, and studied computer programming in Boston, MA . He served
four years in the US Air Force. He worked for AVCO Corporation as an
electronic technician, and as a computer programmer at Malden Mills in
Lawrence, MA, P & C Warehouse in White River Jct., and State Street Bank in
Lebanon, NH. He retired from Vermont National (Chittenden) Bank in 2000
after more than 30 years of service as a computer programmer, manager, and
assistant vice president. After retirement he enjoyed spending his winters
in Florida.
In his early years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball and bowling but
his true passion was golfing. He was a member of the board of directors of
the Claremont Country Club and served as board chairman for one year. He
also spent many hours creating stained glass pieces both at home in
Claremont and at his home in Florida.
Victor served as a member on St. Mary's School Board, was a communicant of
St. Mary's Church in Claremont, was a volunteer basketball coach at the
Goodwin Community Center, and was member on the board of directors of the NH
Community Federal Credit Union. He was a Real Estate associate at J. & M.
Realty for a short time.
The family includes his wife Lorraine (Veilleux) Potvin whom he married on
February 20, 1960.
Two daughters, Aimee Sherman and her husband John of Newport, NH, Michele
Wood and her husband Todd of Leominster, MA; a brother Raoul Potvin of
Shippenville, PA; a sister, Theresa Dole and her husband William of Cornish,
NH. He is also survived by brothers-in-law George Veilleux and his wife
Suzanne, Henry Veilleux and his wife Anita, Robert Veilleux and wife Nancy;
sisters-in-law Claire Denenberg and husband Stewart, Lucille LeClair and
husband Maurice, and Anita Hayes and husband Shaun, several nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Paul Potvin, and a
sister-in-law Grace Potvin.
Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont,
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 8.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning, January 9th
at Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien,
Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery. A
reception will follow at the Claremont Country Club on Maple Av.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to
the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, Department of Research at One Medical
Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001 or to St Mary's School, 18 Central
Street, Claremont, NH 03743. |
