Walter John Spoerl, 64, of Charlestown, NH passed away Monday, January 29,
2007 at the Springfield Hospital, with family at his side, following a
lengthy illness.
He was born in Boston, MA on February 12, 1942 the son of Rev. Dr. Howard
Spoerl I and the Rev. Dr. Dorothy (Tilden) Spoerl.
Walt, is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elsie (Burke) Spoerl and their
son, Howard D. Spoerl II all of Charlestown. He was pre-deceased by their
daughter, Jennifer D. Spoerl on March 31, 2005.
Walt, graduated from Vilas High School in Alstead, NH in the Class of 1960
and from Vicker's Hydrolic School in Chicago.
He served in the US Army and in the Army Reserve.
Walt began his working career with the Fellows Gear Shaper Company in
Springfield, VT, establishing a life time career in plastic injection
molding engineering.
In April of 2003, he was appointed Vice President of Plastic Manufacturing,
for the Charlestown Division of the Whelen Engineering Company.
Walt had many interests, including boating, wilderness fishing adventures,
camping and horsemanship. He collected and restored antique tractors and
was an active member of the NH Antique Tractor Club. Walt, was an avid
participant in the antique tractor pulling competitions.
There will be no visiting hours.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February
10th at Eleven O'clock in St Catherine of Siena Church with Rev. Michael E.
Gendron, Pastor officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in the spring in the Lower Langdon
Cemetery.
The Stringer's Charlestown Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
