William A. Roberts, 86, of Cheshire Ave., Charlestown, NH, died Monday evening, November 28, 2005 at the Springfield Hospital. He was born in Springfield, VT on August 12, 1919 the son of Harry S. and Emily (Abbott) Roberts and resided in Charlestown since 1974. Mr. Roberts served as a T/Sgt in the US Army during World War II, assigned to a tank retriever company, which brought him through Africa, Italy and Germany. William was employed by Fellows Gear Shaper Company for forty-two years and retired as manager of the maintenance department. He was a member of the VFW Post #771 and the Loyal Order of Moose both of Springfield, VT. William enjoyed his family, carpentry and working with metal. He is survived by his wife, of forty-four years, Florence (Vadney) Roberts of Charlestown; a step-daughter, Anne Ricker of Charlestown; three grandchildren, Robert Ricker and his wife, Kim of Coon Rapids,MN, Dana Ricker and his wife, Lisa of Scarborough, ME and Deborah Snide and her husband, Kevin of Springfield, VT; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, April, Amanda, Natasha, Hannah, Mathew, and Abigail; three brothers, Daniel Roberts of Phoenix, AZ, Francis Roberts of PA and Thomas Roberts of CT; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida. Friends may call at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, December 3rd at Ten O'clock in the Charlestown Memorial Chapel with Rev. Malcolm Grobe, Interim Pastor of the Charlestown Congregational Church, officiating. Interment with full military honors by the Fall Mountain J.R.O.T.C. will follow in Hope Hill Cemetery in North Charlestown.
