William Townsend Davison, 85, of Jackson Road in Cornish, NH died Thursday,
February 1, 2007 at his residence.
He was born in Baltimore, MD on May 5, 1921 the son of Drs. Wilburt Cornell
and Atala (Scudder) Davison.
He was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Class of 1938, Yale
University, Class of 1941, and Duke Medical School, Class of 1944. He
served his Orthopedic Residency at Duke University in 1944 and Internal
Medicine Residency from MA Memorial Hospital in 1945.
Dr. Davison was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army and the Coast
Guard.
He was a former member of Rotary and Mason.
He was appointed Orthopedic Surgeon at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit,
MI in 1950 and in 1952 he established a private orthopedic practice in Port
Huron, MI. He was inducted into the American College of Surgeons in 1954;
a charter member and last surviving member of the Michigan Orthopedic
Society founded in 1960; Chief of Staff at Mercy Hospital, Port Huron from
1979-1980; the St. Clair County Orthopedic Society, President; President
of the Michigan Orthopedic Society in 1980 and closed his private practice
in Port Huron, MI in 1980.
Dr. Davison was appointed Head of Orthopedics at the Veterans Hospital in
White River Jct., VT in 1980 and he retired in 1998. He also served as
Assistant Professor of Anatomy at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, NH
from 1991-1995 and from 1996 to current was Assistant Professor of Surgery
(Orthopedic) Emeritus at Dartmouth Medical School. He was a founding member
of ILEAD (Life Long Learning at Dartmouth College).
Dr. Davison is survived by his wife Mildred McCarthy Davison of Cornish whom
he married November 14, 1945; his children, Jane Diehl of Port Huron, MI,
Atala Davison of Denver, CO, Alice Davison of Hanover, NH and Will Davison
of Exeter, NH; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a brother,
Sandy Davison; a sister, Dr. Jeanna Davison.
A graveside committal service will be held in Edminster Cemetery in the
spring.
